The USA had to play without key forward Matthew Tkachuk for the end of its overtime loss to Canada. The Florida Panthers star winger sat on the U.S. bench toward the end of the second period Thursday night in the 4 Nations Face-Off final, skating one brief shift before returning to the bench. He was on the bench at the start of the third and never returned to action. He was originally hurt at the end of the first USA-Canada game on Saturday, staying on the bench near the end of the third period.

New Zealand’s bug of the year is an ancient worm that spits poison goo

Of all the bugs New Zealanders could have selected to win an international competition, they chose neither the prettiest, nor the most useful. The NZ velvet worm won this year’s New Zealand Bug of the Year competition, a less than scientific social experiment held every year by the Entomological Society of New Zealand to test the vagaries of bug fans worldwide. Almost 25,000 votes were cast by some 9,000 people worldwide, who were asked to choose just three favorites from a list of 21 nominees including maggots, ants, crickets and flies.

4 Nations Face-Off: USA fans retaliate, boo 'O Canada' ahead of hockey final

The 4 Nations Face-Off final on Thursday marked the highly-anticipated rematch between the United States and Canada and emotions are running high between both nations. Tensions boiled over quickly during their first matchup on Saturday, with three fights breaking out in the first nine seconds of play. The gloves were off even earlier than that after Canadian fans loudly booed the entirety of the U.S. national anthem ahead of the American's 3-1 win at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The tournament shifted from Canadian soil to the U.S. ahead of the final on Thursday and American fans enacted their revenge. Despite the announcer at Boston's TD Garden asking all fans to refrain from booing each country's respective anthem — "We kindly ask that you respect the national anthem and the players that represent each country" — audible boos were heard as Chantal Kreviazuk began her rendition of "O Canada."

Movie Review: Hit man pic ‘Old Guy’ has style, but it’s no bull’s-eye

A boomer hit man is given a nightmare final assignment to train his own Gen Z replacement in Simon West’s lifeless action-comedy “Old Guy.” Christoph Waltz’s Danny Dolinski is the one at an unwelcome crossroads in the film. He’s only partially healed from a hand injury that’s rendered him dependent on pills and unable to aim a gun as well as he used to. Dolinski also seems to be in the throes of a full crisis: We meet him not on the job, or even in flashback to his pre-injury glory, but out clubbing. The next morning, Dolinski emerges in a bathrobe to gaze proudly upon the several much younger women who have spent the night. But a room full of scantily clothed model-types who seem to be there willingly is only a temporary balm for poor Dolinski. While he might still be a viable specimen for the 20-something party girls of London, his game does not hold the same appeal in the workplace. Soon he’ll be getting the dreaded “we’re going younger” talk from his boss, and she’s talking about him, not his love interests. This is a guy who is certain he’s got a lot left to give in the assassin game, and not as a mentor to a “hitman prodigy,” as Cooper Hoffman’s character Wihlborg is described.

That’s the question Germany’s Federal Court of Justice wrestled with Thursday, and it ruled they’re just comfy footwear. Birkenstock, which is headquartered in Linz am Rhein, Germany, and says its tradition of shoemaking goes back to 1774, filed a lawsuit against three competitors who sold sandals that were very similar to its own.

Police raided a forger’s workshop in Rome. They found dozens of pieces, including fake Picassos and Rembrandts

Italian police have seized dozens of forged artworks attributed to famous artists such as Picasso and Rembrandt in what authorities have called a “clandestine painting laboratory.” The investigation, led by the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, the country’s arts and culture police, and coordinated with the Rome prosecutor’s office, started when authorities began searching for fraudulent works that had been put for sale online, according to a press release issued by the police.

Apple has released a sleeker and more expensive version of its lowest priced iPhone in an attempt to widen the audience for a bundle of artificial intelligence technology that the company has been hoping will revive demand for its most profitable product lineup. The iPhone 16e unveiled Wednesday is the fourth-generation of a model that’s sold at a dramatically lower price than the iPhone’s standard and premium models. The previous bargain-bin models were called the iPhone SE, with the last version coming out in 2022.
