Jan. 24, 2025

NEW YORK – “Onyx Storm,” the third book in Rebecca Yarros’ “Empyrean” series, hasn’t even been out for a week and fans already have eyes on the series’ next novel. Yarros, on the other hand, isn’t ready to mark the calendar with a release date for Book 4 just yet. 'Onyx Storm' ending is even more shocking than the 'Iron Flame' cliffhanger (spoilers)

Jan. 24, 2025

If Rebecca Yarros fans were emotionally torn over the cliffhanger in “Iron Flame,” then they must be spiraling after that “Onyx Storm” ending. The wildly popular romantasy series spent the first two books, “Fourth Wing” and “Iron Flame,” building out the tumultuous world of Navarre and the love story of dragon riders Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson. Their steamy romance and devotion captured the hearts of millions of readers worldwide, so when Xaden channeled magic directly from the source ― a forbidden action that kills the soul ― to save Violet at the end of Book 2, fans were left stunned. Surely Xaden wouldn’t turn evil. There has to be a cure, right?

CNN is announcing layoffs as part of a further shift to digital business

Jan. 24, 2025

CNN announced a restructuring Thursday that includes some 200 layoffs, an accelerated pivot to digital operations and new TV roles for personalities like Wolf Blitzer, Jake Tapper and Audie Cornish. It’s the boldest revamp yet in the 18-month tenure of CEO Mark Thompson, a former chief executive at The New York Times and BBC called upon by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery to revive the news outlet’s flagging fortunes. The layoffs are concentrated in CNN’s TV business, where ratings have tumbled as consumers cut off cable and seek other news sources. They will eventually be offset by new hires in digital, where Warner Bros. Discovery is making a $70 million investment, CNN said.
