Trump will meet French and UK leaders as uncertainty grows about US ties to Europe and Ukraine

Feb. 24, 2025

President Donald Trump holds talks this week with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at a moment of deep uncertainty about the future of transatlantic relations, with Trump transforming American foreign policy and effectively tuning out European leadership as he looks to quickly end Russia’s war in Ukraine. Trump also has made demands for territory — Greenland, Canada, Gaza and the Panama Canal — as well as precious rare earth minerals from Ukraine. Just over a month into his second term, the “ America First ” president has cast an enormous shadow over what veteran U.S. diplomats and former government officials had regarded as America’s calming presence of global stability and continuity.

Ke Huy Quan just pulled off the stealthiest 'White Lotus' cameo yet

Feb. 24, 2025

No one does a cameo quite like "The White Lotus." From meme-legend Jennifer Coolidge to K-pop star Lisa, the resort-themed social satire is no stranger to big names. But the show's newest season may have outdone itself, pulling off a particularly sneaky drop-in. Fans who watched Season 3 Episode 2 may have noticed a familiar voice: "Everything Everywhere All At Once" star Ke Huy Quan. While he is never seen on screen, USA TODAY confirmed that Quan voices Kenny Nguyen, a businessman who once worked with Timothy Ratliff (Jason Isaacs) on a shady deal. Jessica Williams jokingly calls out Harrison Ford in viral SAG Awards intro moment

Feb. 24, 2025

There's a right and wrong time to eat during an awards show, as Harrison Ford just learned the hard way. Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony began, as usual, with celebrities giving testimonials to the camera about their acting career. During this "I Am an Actor" segment, Jessica Williams spoke from a table where she was seated with her "Shrinking" co-stars, including Ford, who was directly behind her. But Ford may not have realized he would be in the frame for Williams' remarks, as he could be seen eating behind her as she spoke. The audience laughed as Ford stopped himself from taking a bite of food after he seemed to notice himself in the shot.

The UN will vote to demand Russia pull troops out of Ukraine. But the US wants a softer approach

Feb. 24, 2025

On the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the U.N. General Assembly is expected to vote Monday on dueling resolutions — Ukraine’s European-backed proposal demanding an immediate withdrawal of Russian forces from the country and a U.S. call for a swift end to the war that never mentions Moscow’s aggression. The United States pressured the Ukrainians to withdraw their nonbinding resolution in favor of its proposal, a U.S. official and a European diplomat said Sunday. But Ukraine refused, and it will be put to a vote in the 193-nation assembly, two European diplomats said. All spoke on condition of anonymity because the talks were private.

Roberta Flack, Grammy-winning singer of hit 'Killing Me Softly,' dies at 88

Feb. 24, 2025

Between her smoky voice and cooing ballads, Roberta Flack distinguished herself as a soulful standout. The singer died Monday. She was 88. A statement from her representative noted that Flack "died peacefully, surrounded by her family." Flack's manager, Suzanne Koga, said in an appreciation of the multi-genre star, "If Roberta Flack was unlike singers who came before her, there were many who would emulate her in her wake. In fact, her influence has never stopped reverberating. She was a woman who sang in a measured voice, but her measurements moved times and events as much as they moved hearts." No cause of death was provided for Flack, a staple on the R&B and adult contemporary charts throughout the '70s and '80s. But in November 2022, the singer announced that she suffered from ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, which prevented her from singing and made even speaking difficult. She retired from singing professionally until her death.
