NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has captured photos of one of the earliest supernovas ever seen, with features appearing like grains and knots found in a cut of wood. "Once upon a time, the core of a massive star collapsed, creating a shockwave that blasted outward, ripping the star apart as it went," NASA said on its website. "When the shockwave reached the star’s surface, it punched through, generating a brief, intense pulse of X-rays and ultraviolet light that traveled outward into the surrounding space."

He was more concerned about the grief and mourning he and the show's staff were experiencing over the loss of Trebek.
Travel can be tough for unmarried couples looking for a bit of privacy in India. Accommodations routinely decline to let this growing segment of the population share rooms — especially those looking to book a hotel in the city where they already reside. Which is why a change to a budget hospitality booking platform’s policy in a small Indian city has drawn much attention both in and outside the country. It all started in early January, when OYO Rooms issued “new check-in directives” for its partner accommodations in the northwestern city of Meerut, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Delhi, stating that hotels there could deny bookings from unmarried couples at their discretion.
Los Angeles-area residents who already face warnings about their tap water could be without it for some time, experts told NBC News, owing to concerns about the damage done to local infrastructure and the chemicals released by wildfires. At least two water departments have told residents not to drink their tap water because of concerns about potential contamination from the ongoing wildfires. And the possibility of chemicals’ and pathogens’ entering the water system has raised concerns about potential risks to human health, though it may take a while for tests to determine the scope of the problem, particularly since the fires are still active.
Deadly wildfires continue to ravage the Los Angeles area, as firefighters battle windy conditions to contain the out-of-control blazes. But what does it mean to “contain” a wildfire? Containment does not mean that a blaze has been completely extinguished. Rather, it refers to how much of a perimeter has been established around an active fire, preventing it from growing and engulfing more land.
Southern California is bracing for another day of potential mudslides in areas burned by last month’s wildfires after a Thursday deluge prompted evacuation orders, whisked a fire department vehicle into Malibu waters, and covered parts of a coastal highway in multiple feet of muck. Thursday’s deluge caused significant flooding, mud and debris flows, but the National Weather Service office in Los Angeles warned “mud and rock slides can still happen well after the rain has ended.”
