Celebrate Valentine’s Day this year with “Captain America: Brave New World,” a highly processed, empty calorie, regret-later candy of a movie. We’re nearing the end of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with predictable and underwhelming returns. “Captain America: Brave New World” feels like it’s just treading water, wasting Anthony Mackie in his first cinematic outing as his “Hamlet”-like Captain America. The story by Rob Edwards, Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson gathers familiar Marvel characters and blends them into a White House conspiracy-meets-international violent face-off in the Indian Ocean. Only Marvel in Phase Five could make that boring. It lifts from “The Manchurian Candidate” and “Top Gun” and even pointlessly steals its title from Aldous Huxley. It cannibalizes from other Marvel movies, like the addition of a substance called Adamantium, much like Vibranium from Wakanda. There is a Kendrick Lamar song heard at the climactic end, but it’s not new; it’s from 2014.
Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. have officially closed the door on a potential merger, though they will continue to work together on a strategic partnership that includes AI and electric vehicles, the companies announced on Feb. 13. The two companies on Wednesday agreed to terminate the memorandum of understanding they signed on Dec. 23, 2024, and discontinue “the discussion and consideration of the Business Integration.” Honda and Nissan also terminated a similar agreement that would also have included Mitsubishi Motors Corp. in the combination. Mitsubishi also verified in a statement that discussions between the parties had ended.
The producer price index for final demand rose 0.4% last month after an upwardly revised 0.5% gain in December, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) said on Thursday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the PPI rising 0.3%. In the 12 months through January, the PPI advanced 3.5% after increasing 3.3% in December. The report followed news on Wednesday that consumer prices accelerated by the most in nearly 1-1/2 years in January, dimming hopes that the U.S. central bank would resume cutting rates in June. Financial markets now expect a rate reduction in September, though some economists believe the window for further policy easing has closed, citing strong domestic demand and a stable labor market.
Israel promised to mass forces inside and around Gaza and reiterated that “intense fighting” would resume if Hamas did not release three hostages by noon Saturday. “We’re talking about these Israeli hostages arriving back in Israel,” David Mencer, a spokesperson for the Israeli government, said Thursday. “If that does not happen by Saturday, noon, the ceasefire will end and the IDF will resume intense military operations until Hamas is fully defeated.”
Netflix reportedly has the power to "make or break" Meghan Markle’s future as an influencer. The Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle series, "With Love, Meghan" is set to premiere on March 4 after it was postponed due to the Los Angeles fires. Sources recently told the U.K.’s DailyMail that the streaming giant is gearing up to roll out the red carpet by offering products supporting Meghan’s brand at their merchandise store. British royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital that the British royal family will have "a ringside seat" across the pond to see if the mother of two can achieve her American dream as a businesswoman. Still, she warned that the former actress has challenges ahead.

As of Thursday, the slow-moving Cyclone Zelia was 90 miles north of Port Hedland and was forecast to hit the Pilbara Coast as early as Friday morning with winds of up to 130 mph, Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology said in an advisory.
Traditionally staged alongside the US Open’s other singles and doubles events at Flushing Meadows, this year’s mixed doubles will take place on August 19 and 20 – several days before the scheduled start of the tournament. The rationale is that top players will then be available to appear in the mixed doubles, attracting more fans and allowing broadcasters to spotlight the competition before main draw singles play begins on August 24. Among those to be angered by the change are defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, who called it a “pseudo-exhibition” and “profound injustice” which “disrespect(s) an entire category of players.”
“I did something that I was so comfortable with, that I’ve done all my life,” Graf, who won 22 grand slam singles titles and spent a women’s record 377 weeks as the world No. 1, tells CNN Sport. “I knew all the ins and outs.” So it was perhaps a surprise, 25 years after retiring from tennis, that Graf found herself suddenly gripped by nerves while playing in front of a big crowd. This time, the circumstances were different to what she had experienced during her professional career: the court was smaller, the racket lighter, and the game was happening at lightning pace. This wasn’t tennis but pickleball, a game with which Graf had only been familiar for a few years. To give of sense of the sport’s burgeoning popularity, a peak ESPN audience of close to one million watched on as she and husband Andre Agassi defeated John McEnroe and Maria Sharapova in Hollywood, Florida, last year.
LOS ANGELES — A winter downpour in Los Angeles on Thursday sent mud sliding over Mulholland Drive and prompted orders to evacuate near areas burned by devastating wildfires last month, officials said. Around 8 inches of mud slid over the famous roadway in the Hollywood Hills, closing it, but homes above the slide were determined to be stable, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
