In a freewheeling Inauguration Day of speeches, casual remarks and formal balls, President Donald Trump wasted no time trying to shape the world in his unmistakable image. Unlike four years ago, when his term began in a flurry of unpreparedness, this time Trump let fly with a series of actions and statements that seek to scrub many of former President Joe Biden’s decisions and replace them with Trump's own stark imprimatur.
Even Hall of Fame athletes are taken aback by President Donald Trump's golf game. Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre has been seen playing golf with Trump since August 2020 and spoke about his experience playing with Trump in a post on X Monday.
UFC star Conor McGregor attended a ball ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th president of the United States on Sunday night and spoke highly of him. McGregor expressed optimism about the future of the U.S. in a red-carpet interview with reporters, according to BG on the Scene.
Snow was falling in the Houston area Monday night, forecasters said, as more than 55 million people could be affected by a historic winter storm expected to bring rare snow and frigid temperatures throughout the Gulf Coast region until midweek. The storm was bringing snow, sleet and dire warnings about the dangers of icy roads in Houston on Monday night. In the New Orleans area, wind chill temperatures in the teens, as well as snow and a glaze of ice, were forecast for Tuesday morning.
The host broadcaster has apologized after Novak Djokovic declined to do a customary post-match on court interview at the Australian Open Sunday to protest comments made on air by someone who works for the TV network. Djokovic said he wanted an apology from Channel 9 and Tony Jones, who called the 24-time Grand Slam champion overrated and a has-been, as well as an apparent reference to his deportation from Australia in 2022 for being unvaccinated for COVID-19, during an on-air appearance at Melbourne Park where a crowd of the player’s supporters were chanting.
Santa Ana winds will hit the Los Angeles area yet again this week, bringing extreme risk of rapid fire spread as the region continues to tamp out deadly wildfires that ignited under similar conditions earlier this month. The highest red flag warning — a particularly dangerous situation alert — is in place Monday at noon local time (3 p.m. ET) to 10 a.m. (1 p.m. ET) Tuesday for a large portion of Ventura and Los Angeles counties.
Some plates have been crafted by the world’s best chefs, taken from menus on which astronomical prices are printed in tiny text (the size of the font doesn’t lessen the pain, unfortunately.) Others reflect incredible value; extraordinarily tasty eats served up by the exhausted proprietor of a backstreet kitchen, roadside stand or a cart on wheels. Over the years — and through inches on the waistline — I’ve come to learn that a standout dish is a slow-cooked casserole of different ingredients. If you’re hungry, food invariably tastes better. If you’re in a good mood, you’re often more forgiving about the plate in front of you.
The Philadelphia Eagles rode star running back Saquon Barkley all year to a division title, and now they are one win away from a conference championship. The MVP candidate, just the ninth player in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season, continued his career year with another monster performance Sunday. Barkley had 205 yards rushing and two scores — primarily in the snow — to help the Eagles defeat the Los Angeles Rams 28-22 and advance to the NFC championship game. Philadelphia will host division rival Washington, a team fresh off an upset of top seed Detroit in the divisional rounds.
ATLANTA — Four years ago, as Riley Leonard entered his senior season of high school football in Fairhope, Alabama, he received such little recruiting interest that the deeply religious 6-foot-4 quarterback began to consult a higher power in his search for a college scholarship. “I remember sitting in my room and praying at night like, 'Jesus, Lord, would you please just give me something, give me an offer?” Leonard told reporters Saturday. Duke University eventually answered that prayer, and a few years later, Leonard attended a famed summertime academy for quarterbacks in Louisiana run by Archie Manning, the former NFL quarterback and father of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli. At the academy, Leonard roomed with Will Howard, the starting quarterback at Kansas State who, like Leonard, shared a similar backstory. Each was a three-star high school prospect, out of a possible five, who had been passed over by the country’s most tradition-rich schools and had instead proved himself as a starter at a middle-tier program.
A trip to the AFC championship game — and possibly the Super Bowl — slipped through the Baltimore Ravens' collective fingers. Star quarterback Lamar Jackson lamented a litany of self-inflicted wounds during his team's 27-25 playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, on a dreary Sunday night in western New York that'll haunt the Ravens for evermore.
