Warriors honor former star Andre Iguodala with jersey retirement after win over Mavs

The Golden State Warriors honored Andre Iguodala on Sunday at the Chase Center following the 126-102 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. The team raised a banner into the rafters that read "Andre Iguodala" with a predominant No. 9 representing his jersey number. The Warriors were holding the ceremony on the same day as the game against the Mavericks, which allowed Iguodala's former teammate Klay Thompson to attend the ceremony. Thompson went to Dallas as a free agent in the summer of 2024, after spending 13 years with the Warriors.

Arizona apologizes for ‘unacceptable chant’ from fans at end of basketball loss to BYU

Arizona has apologized after the school says some fans participated in an “unacceptable chant” following the basketball team’s 96-95 loss to BYU on Saturday night. According to online video, fans can be heard yelling a profane phrase directed at Mormons as the teams were leaving the court. BYU is the flagship school for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mikaela Shiffrin is 100% the best in skiing’s World Cup history book. Shiffrin’s record-extending 100th career World Cup race win Sunday fulfilled a quest put on hold by a serious crash in November. Back to racing in her favored slalom event, Shiffrin kept and added to her first-run lead to finish 0.61 seconds ahead of Zrinka Ljutic. Shiffrin’s U.S. teammate Paula Moltzan was third, 0.64 back.

California governor asks Congress for nearly $40 billion for Los Angeles wildfire relief

Gavin Newsom has asked Congress to approve nearly $40 billion in aid to help the Los Angeles area recover from January’s devastating wildfires, which he said could become the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history. Newsom sent a letter Friday asking for support from lawmakers including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), the House Appropriations Committee chair.

Alternative for Germany nearly doubled its support, the strongest showing for a far-right party since World War II.Merz said he was aware of the dimension of the task he faces to make a governing coalition and said that “it will not be easy.” Chancellor Olaf Scholz conceded defeat for his center-left Social Democrats.The election was dominated by worries about the years-long stagnation of Europe’s biggest economy, pressure to curb migration and growing uncertainty over Europe’s alliance with the United States.

Heavy snow leads to collapse of 26 buildings in New York county

Feet of snow across parts of central New York caused more than two dozen homes and businesses to collapse under its weight, according to Oswego County officials. A lake-effect snowstorm started on Feb. 14 and did not let up until Feb. 19, piling feet of snow on roofs. According to the National Weather Service's Buffalo office, the highest weekly totals included 79.1 inches in Palermo and 55.8 inches in Minetto. On Feb. 19, the city of Oswego had 20 inches of snow on the ground, the highest snow depth so far in February, according to the NWS.
