Dangerous ‘gateway drug’ can lead to other substance use, addiction experts warn

A vast majority of American adults say they have consumed alcohol at some point — yet experts warn that alcoholic beverages could be a "gateway drug" to more harmful substances. More than 84% of adults in the U.S. report having drunk alcohol in their lifetime, according to the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). That same survey found that among underage Americans (12 to 17 years of age), more than 21% had consumed alcohol.

Measles vaccines given long ago could be less effective now, doctors say

For those who were vaccinated for measles many decades ago, there’s a chance the protection has worn off by now. Amid the current measles outbreak in West Texas — and with cases also reported in New Mexico, New Jersey and several other states — some doctors are warning about the possibility of legacy vaccines becoming less effective over time. Measles is a highly contagious virus for those who have not previously been infected or vaccinated, with up to a 90% chance of transmission.

Measles outbreaks in Texas and New Mexico, which have already seen one death, have many Americans wondering whether they are at risk and how cautious they should be. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning that global measles outbreaks increase the likelihood of cases among unvaccinated travelers. This is something the center saw on Feb. 19 with a patient in California who returned from Asia. So far, according to the CDC, there have been 165 reported cases of measles in 2025, 93% of which have been described as "outbreak-associated." The CDC defines an "outbreak" as three or more related cases of the illness.

John Cena had a stranglehold on the WWE universe for more than two decades as he racked up 16 world championships and several WrestleMania main event headliners. On Saturday night, Cena broke the hearts of millions who grew up watching him when he kicked undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes between the legs following a cue from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Cena won the men’s Elimination Chamber match as CM Punk passed out from his submission maneuver. Rhodes came down the entrance way to congratulate Cena, and the two began to chat – in what appeared to be a friendly conversation. The Rock interrupted the festivities and joined the two WrestleMania 41 opponents in the ring.

Former bike gang member who spent 5 years in prison qualifies for Open Championship after winning tournament

The 31-year-old qualified for the Open Championship on Sunday with a win in the New Zealand Open, five years after he spent half a decade in prison. Peake was a member of the Rebels motorcycle gang and was convicted of assault at the age of 21. He had been a teammate of 2022 Champion Golfer of the Year Cameron Smith at the time he was convicted. After leaving jail, he returned to golf and began to rebuild his career with the help of leading coach Richie Smith and with the support of his family.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is reportedly considering removing Pete Rose from the league’s banned list, months after the game’s all-time hits leader died at the age of 83. Rose’s family filed a petition with MLB on Jan. 8 to remove him from the list, ESPN reported Saturday. The baseball legend’s lawyer, Jeffrey Lenkov, told the outlet the petition was filed after Rose’s daughter met with Manfred and league spokesman Pat Courtney on Dec. 17.
