Trevor Moore scores twice, Kings rally in 3rd period for 5-2 win over Golden Knights

Trevor Moore had two goals, Warren Foegele got the go-ahead score and the Los Angeles Kings rallied to beat the Vegas Golden Knights 5-2 on Monday night. It was Moore’s second game this season with two goals. Four of the forward’s 10 goals have come in the last four games. Joel Edmundson and Kevin Fiala also scored in the third period for the Kings, who are 14-1-1 in their last 16 games. Quinton Byfield had a career-high four assists and Darcy Kuemper stopped 19 shots.

Morrissey, Scheifele rally Jets to 2-1 overtime win over Sharks for 10th straight

Josh Morrissey scored the tying goal in the final minute of regulation and Mark Scheifele got the winner 1:33 into overtime as the Winnipeg Jets rallied to beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 on Monday night for their franchise-record 10th straight win. Connor Hellebuyck finished with 17 saves for the Jets. William Eklund scored for San Jose, and Vitek Vanecek had 33 saves. Morrissey tied it with a slap shot from the top of the circle with 26 seconds left after Hellebuyck was pulled for his eighth of the season.

Red Wings free up salary cap space by dealing minor league goalie Ville Husso to the Ducks

The Detroit Red Wings freed up $3.6 million in salary cap space by trading goalie Ville Husso to the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. The Red Wings received future considerations in dealing the 30-year-old player who has spent a majority of this season in the minors. Husso had a 1-5-2 record with Detroit and went 8-4 with two shutouts with AHL Grand Rapids this season. Husso is completing the final year of a three-year contract, and was assigned by Anaheim to the Ducks’ AHL affiliate in San Diego.

Ducks’ Trevor Zegras suspended 3 games for his hit to the head of the Red Wings’ Michael Rasmussen

Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras has been suspended three games without pay for a hit to the head of Detroit’s Michael Rasmussen. The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced the suspension for interference Monday after holding a disciplinary hearing with Zegras, saying it was a “late, high hit.” No penalty was called on the play late in the second period of the teams’ game Sunday.

Commissioner reduces ban of Wild’s Ryan Hartman from 10 games to 8, but seeks ‘wake-up call’

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman upheld the suspension of Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman for slamming an opponent’s head to the ice, while making the unusual decision on Monday to reduce the penalty from 10 games to the union-recommended eight after hearing Hartman’s in-person appeal. Hartman was punished for roughing Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle on Feb. 1, after which Stutzle had two cuts and bruising above his left eye and needed five stitches.

With Chris Kreider’s status unclear, Rangers call up prospect Brennan Othmann

The New York Rangers called up Brennan Othmann, one of the top prospects in the organization, to have an extra forward available in case veteran Chris Kreider is unable to play Tuesday night against the Islanders because of injury. The team announced Monday it recalled Othmann from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League as part of a series of roster moves.

New Zealand thumps Bangladesh and carries India into the Champions Trophy semifinals

New Zealand sealed a semifinal spot in the Champions Trophy after cruising past Bangladesh by five wickets on the back of Rachin Ravindra’s century in Rawalpindi on Monday. The victory with nearly four overs to spare also advanced India to the semifinals and eliminated tournament host and defending champion Pakistan and Bangladesh from contention. Ravindra took a blow on the forehead in a game 16 days ago and missed the last three one-day internationals, but recovered to strike 112 off 105 balls and carry New Zealand to 240-5 in 46.1 overs in reply to Bangladesh’s 236-9.

Zach LaVine scored a season-high 42 points in his finest game with Sacramento since being acquired in a multi-team trade near the deadline, leading the Kings to a 130-88 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night. LaVine hit eight 3-pointers and shot 16 of 19 overall as the Kings earned their first home win over the Hornets since 2021. LaVine has scored in double figures in all eight games for Sacramento. DeMar DeRozan had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Kings (29-28). Malik Monk scored 13, Keegan Murray added 10 and Domantas Sabonis finished with seven points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
