Two centenarians broke the Guinness World Record for longest marriage of a living couple, as reported by Jam Press and confirmed by LongeviQuest, a database on the life and times of the world’s oldest people. Manoel Angelim Dino, 105, first met Maria de Sousa Dino, 101, while collecting sweets in Brazil in 1936. They remained acquaintances until they met again in 1940.
An off-label prescription drug has been shown to help some non-verbal children with autism discover the ability to speak. The drug, leucovorin, is a prescription vitamin that functions similarly to folic acid, helping to restore folate levels in patients who may have difficulty absorbing or using it, according to Katy Dubinsky, a New York pharmacist and the CEO and co-founder of Vitalize, a private supplement company.
A federal judge on Friday again blocked the Trump administration’s drastic cuts in medical research funding that many scientists say will endanger patients and delay new lifesaving studies. The new National Institutes of Health policy would strip research groups of hundreds of millions of dollars to cover so-called indirect expenses of studying Alzheimer’s, cancer, heart disease and a host of other illnesses — anything from clinical trials of new treatments to basic lab research that is the foundation for discoveries.
During active cancer treatment, patients face many smaller battles on the path to remission. One of those lesser-known struggles is a condition known as chemo mouth, a painful side effect of chemotherapy and radiation. For some, chemo mouth can result in mouth sores and other uncomfortable symptoms, like a limited ability to eat, drink or even speak, according to experts.
The Texas Department of State Health and Services (DSHS) has been tracking an ever-growing measles outbreak that has nearly doubled in the last two weeks. When first reported on Feb. 5 in Gaines County, officials warned there would be additional cases. People often ask why the three vaccines are combined, which Saphier said is simply for convenience. "From a public health standpoint, if the goal is to vaccinate as many children as possible to reach that herd immunity and keep these infections at bay, again, parents are more likely to only bring their child to the pediatrician that one time," the doctor said.
Muscle-building supplements are increasingly popular with teen boys and young men. New research suggests overuse of products like whey powder or creatine may be affecting young people’s mental health as well as their their physical health.
The United States has so far avoided vaccination as a strategy to eradicating bird flu in poultry, instead relying on culling infected flocks. With the escalating outbreak driving up egg prices to record highs, could that approach soon change? And as millions of flocks continue to die, why aren’t vaccines being given already?
Two widely touted Alzheimer’s drugs have been shown to enable patients to remain in their homes, living independently, for longer periods of time. Those medications, while effective, are not without their risks and side effects, however. That’s according to a recent study published last week in the Alzheimer’s Association journal.
As the health of Americans comes into sharper focus with the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement, women’s health needs to be a priority, says one expert. Functional medicine provider Dr. Austin Lake of Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializes in treating women with hormonal imbalances, autoimmune conditions and chronic diseases. In an on-camera interview with Fox News Digital, Lake said that before the MAHA movement, he met with many "frustrated" women who suffered chronic health problems, as well as mothers and grandmothers who worried about their children's health.
